Iraq is a federal parliamentary constitutional republic in Western Asia, its capital Baghdad. The President serves as head of state while the Prime Minister heads the government; the Council of Representatives is the country's elected legislature. The current constitution was adopted in 2005, after the fall of the Ba'athist government in 2003.
