Saudi Arabia is a unitary Islamic absolute monarchy in the Arabian Peninsula, its capital Riyadh. The King serves as head of state while a Prime Minister heads the government through the Council of Ministers, and the unicameral Consultative Assembly (Majlis al-Shura) serves in an advisory legislative role. Saudi Arabia is governed under the Basic Law of Governance, promulgated by royal decree.
