The Republic is a Socratic dialogue by Plato, written around 375 BC, concerning justice and the order and character of the just city-state and the just man. It is Plato's best-known work and one of the world's most influential works of philosophy and political theory.

BCE recorded here (the schema's closed era-label set accepts CE/BCE, not BC/AD) consistent with Plato's known lifespan, c. 428/427 to 348/347 BC.
