Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), is a social-democratic and secularist political party founded on 30 October 2003 through a merger of Sharad Yadav's Janata Dal faction, the Samata Party and Lok Shakti, based mainly in Bihar and led by Nitish Kumar. It won 12 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 Indian general election and is a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance coalition that formed the Modi III Government.
