Led Burma's independence movement against British colonial rule and negotiated the February 1947 Panglong Agreement, bringing Shan, Kachin and Chin leaders into a proposed federal union. He was assassinated in July 1947, months before Burma's independence was formally achieved in January 1948, and is regarded as the founding father of modern Myanmar.
