Cyril Ramaphosa serves as the fifth President of South Africa, having taken office on 15 February 2018. A former anti-apartheid activist and trade union leader, he served as Secretary-General of the National Union of Mineworkers and later as African National Congress Secretary-General under Nelson Mandela, built a substantial business career between 1996 and 2014, and returned to politics as Deputy President under Jacob Zuma before succeeding him as President.
