Friedrich Engels was a German philosopher and social scientist who co-authored The Communist Manifesto with Karl Marx in 1848 and co-founded the body of theory that became Marxism. He funded and supported Marx for decades, wrote The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845) from his own observation of Manchester factory labor, and edited the second and third volumes of Marx's Das Kapital after Marx's death.
