Masoud Pezeshkian is the ninth President of Iran, having taken office on 28 July 2024 at age 69, the oldest person to assume the position. A heart surgeon by training, he served as Iran's Minister of Health and Medical Education from 2001 to 2005, was elected to parliament five times representing Tabriz, and served as First Deputy Speaker from 2016 to 2020 before winning the 2024 presidential election as a reformist candidate with 53.7 percent of the vote.
