Wikipedia's article on the Parliament of the United Kingdom: the Parliament of England (established 1215) and the Parliament of Scotland (c. 1235) united by the Acts of Union 1707 into the Parliament of Great Britain, joined in turn with the Parliament of Ireland to form the Parliament of the United Kingdom, and the Westminster system it produced, exported across the former British Empire, being called the mother of parliaments.
