Constitutions and Founding Charters

Foundational instruments that establish or fundamentally reorganize a state's own system of government, including national constitutions and the earlier chartered statutes England's own constitutional order rests on, such as Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights and Habeas Corpus Act. Belongs here: a text that itself creates or restructures a government's basic constitutional architecture. Does not belong here: a text that declares a right or a principle without itself constituting a government, grouped under Declarations and Foundational Rights Instruments, or a text agreed between states rather than adopted by one, grouped under Treaties and International Agreements.
