Independence and Anti-Colonial Movements

Movements whose central aim was ending foreign, colonial or externally imposed rule over a territory or people, including the Indian Independence Movement, Ghanaian Independence, Decolonization as a general movement, the Spanish American Wars of Independence, and the Zapatista National Liberation Army, an indigenous self-determination movement for land and autonomy filed here as the nearest fit among these five subcategories. Belongs here: a movement whose primary goal is self-determination or independence from an external or colonial power. Does not belong here: an uprising aimed at a domestic ruling order rather than an external power, grouped under Revolutions and Popular Uprisings.
