Electoral Systems and Voting Methods

The methods and formulas by which votes are translated into seats or outcomes, and the phenomena that follow directly from a given method's own logic, including First Past the Post, Proportional Representation and its major variants, Single Transferable Vote, Ranked-Choice Voting, the Electoral College, Duverger's Law and Gerrymandering. Belongs here: a voting rule, a formula for converting votes to seats, or a regularity or manipulation that follows from how such a rule counts votes. Does not belong here: a mechanism for deciding who forms a government once seats are allocated, grouped under Government Formation and Executive-Legislative Relations, or a mechanism by which citizens vote directly on a measure rather than for a representative, grouped under Direct Democracy and Citizen Participation.
