The Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) is a Christian-democratic and conservative political party. Its leader Friedrich Merz became chancellor on 14 May 2025 heading a coalition government with the CDU's Bavarian sister party, the CSU, and the Social Democratic Party.
