The Merz Government is the current government of Germany, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and formed by a coalition of the Christian Democratic Union, its Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union, and the Social Democratic Party, since 6 May 2025. It succeeded the Scholz Government.

Germany does not seek nuclear weapons of its own; it supports NATO nuclear deterrence and nuclear-sharing arrangements, and in 2026 began exploring closer nuclear-deterrence cooperation with France as an addition to, not a substitute for, those NATO arrangements.

Germany ties recognition of a Palestinian state to a negotiated two-state process rather than granting it unilaterally; Foreign Minister Wadephul has stated recognition comes at the end of that process, which Germany says must start now.
