Chinese revolutionary leader who organised the movement that overthrew the Qing dynasty in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution, founded the Kuomintang (Nationalist Party), and served as the first provisional president of the Republic of China in 1912. He articulated the Three Principles of the People, nationalism, democracy and people's livelihood, as the new republic's guiding doctrine. He died in 1925 and is honoured as the father of modern China on both the mainland and Taiwan.
