Theocratic and Supreme Religious-Legal Leaderships

A government whose ultimate authority rests in a religious or supreme-leader office rather than in a secular constitutional office, whether or not a subordinate elected office also exists. Belongs here: the Khamenei Supreme Leadership and the elected Pezeshkian Administration, both filed here because Iran's presidency is constitutionally subordinate to the Supreme Leader under velayat-e-faqih (itself a live ideology entity in this atlas); and the Akhundzada Supreme Leadership and the Hasan Akhund Government, Afghanistan's Taliban leadership and its subordinate cabinet. Does not belong here: a government in a country where religion shapes law or politics without a constitutionally supreme religious office standing above the elected government.
