Populism

A DELIBERATE PLACEMENT CALL, named per the conductor's instruction to copy the law board's honesty. The superseded, simplified position, still common in casual and older journalistic usage, treats populism as a rhetorical style or campaign strategy that can attach to any ideology, not a substantive ideology of its own. The current mainstream political-science position, Cas Mudde's "thin-centered ideology" framework, treats populism as a genuine but thin ideology built on a Manichean people-versus-elite core, which then combines with a fuller host ideology (left-populism, right-populism, agrarian populism). This tree follows Mudde's current framing and gives Populism its own subcategory rather than folding each populist movement into whichever host ideology it pairs with. Belongs here: Populism.
